KEE AVIL from Montreal combines guitar, voice and electronic production to create song assemblages that teeter on the edge of collapse while oozing forward, like sticky wax, shedding disparate elements along the way… [...] where PJ Harvey meets Pan Daijing or Grouper melds with Autechre.

BEDROOM JUNE from Hamburg is a multi-instrumentalist and songwriter that loves dreamy indie pop, shoegaze and rock&roll.

KEE AVIL Led by Montréal producer Vicky Mettler, Kee Avil combines guitar, voice, electroacoustics and electronic production to create song assemblages that teeter on the edge of collapse while oozing forward, like sticky resin picking up and shedding disparate elements along the way.

Kee Avil evolved from playing guitar with broken cymbals and drumsticks to forging askew tempos and templates glued together by samples of screws dropped into crystal bowls. Her self-titled debut EP, released in 2018 on Black Bough Records, harnessed her improvised music and prepared guitar background toward a newfound structural sensibility and arresting vocal/lyrical experimentation; she has been immersed in the exploration of distinctive compositional architectures ever since, expanding her sonic palette with increasing and intensive detail, where twitchy, finely wrought postpunk electro-industrial avant-pop songs are meticulously assembled to resemble disassembly. Honed through pre-pandemic tours in North America and Europe (sharing stages with Marc Ribot, Pere Ubu, Bill Orcutt and Fly Pan Am, among others), Kee Avil’s emerging body of work signals a vital, viscous, virtuosic new voice in experimental songcraft–where touchstones include Juana Molina, Scott Walker, Fiona Apple and Eartheater; where PJ Harvey meets Pan Daijing or Grouper melds with Autechre.

Observed from a distance, Mettler’s approach closely shadows Scott Walker’s later day deranged avant compositions, balancing pop sensibilities with a keen ear for musical experimentation and resulting in an album whose musical explorations are as intriguing as its emotional impact." — The Quietus

BEDROOM JUNE

Between dreamy, gentle sounds and steadily vibrating rhythms, the songwriter/singer and multi-instrumentalist Bedroom June creates sonic images that invite you to indulge in your imagination. Her sound is best described as catchy indie pop melodies blended with classic shoe gaze and vintage twee sounds filtered through electronic haze. The Hamburg-based artist began writing and producing her own songs in her teenage bedroom at an early age and is now introducing her songs to the broader audience for the first time. Born as the granddaughter of guest workers from Turkey in Germany, she grew up somewhere between two different worlds. Turkish pop music and classical arabesque as well as indie rock, punk, garage and dreamy pop influenced the young artist in her childhood and teenage years. Bedroom June oscillates between assimilation and rebellion, rejection and inclusion, self-sacrifice and self-abandonment, angelic vocals and distorted guitars in her self-written, -produced and -recorded songs. As a singer and guitarist, she formed the psych pop band Deep Dyed together with her 3 close friends in 2019 and joined the artist Shitney Beers in 2022 on their album This Is Pop! by playing the bass guitar.
