Kulturschiff und Industriedenkmal Culture-Ship and Industrial Monument

Die Stubnitz ist ein einmaliges Kultur.Raumschiff, das die Geschichte der DDR-Hochseefischerei erlebt und sich zu einem Ort für alternative Musik und Performance entwickelt hat. Trotz zahlreicher Herausforderungen bleibt die Stubnitz sowohl ein lebendiges seetüchtiges Industriedenkmal als auch ein Symbol für die Beständigkeit von Grassroots- und Non-Mainstream-Kultur. 1992–2013: 11 Länder, 22 Städte, seit 2014 fest in Hamburg. 2024: 60 Jahre Seeschiff. 2027: 35 Jahre Kulturschiff – und eine durch und durch immersive Location. The Stubnitz is a unique cultural ‘spaceship’ that has witnessed the history of GDR high-seas fishing and has evolved into a venue for alternative music and performance. Despite numerous challenges, the Stubnitz remains both a living, seaworthy industrial monument and a symbol of the enduring nature of grassroots and non-mainstream culture.

Der gemeinnützige Verein Motorschiff Stubnitz e.V. betreibt das Schiff. Neben Musikkultur, Auftritten und anderen Veranstaltungen kümmert sich die Crew um die Technik und Instandhaltung der 2500 schwimmenden Tonnen auf 80 Meter Schiffslänge. Das Projekt versteht sich als partizipativ und soziokulturell. Die Stubnitz lebt vom Mitmachen und vom Antrieb der Crew. 1992–2013: 11 countries, 22 cities; based in Hamburg since 2014. 2024: 60 years as a seagoing vessel. 2027: 35 years as a culture vessel – and a thoroughly immersive venue. The non-profit association Motorschiff Stubnitz e.V. operates the ship. In addition to organising concerts, performances and other events, the crew takes care of the technical aspects and maintenance of the 2,500-ton, 80 metres long vessel. The project identifies itself as participatory and socio-cultural. The Stubnitz thrives on participation and the crew’s motivation.

Öffentliche Gelder fließen leider nur in einzelnen Projektphasen. Der Kulturverein versucht das Industriedenkmal durch seine Aktivitäten zu finanzieren, das ist mit Kulturprogramm aber bei Weitem nicht möglich. Daher ist die Stubnitz auf der Suche nach regelmäßigen, auch größeren Zuwendungen und Sponsoring, von Stiftungen und Geldgeber*innen. Unfortunately, public funding is only available for individual project phases. The cultural association is trying to finance the industrial monument through its activities, but this is by no means possible through its cultural programme alone. The Stubnitz therefore has to rely on donations and grants and is seeking regular, even substantial, grants and sponsorship from foundations and donors.
