The second edition of our antifascist black metal gathering is - again - curated with care and excellence, by Hamburgs DYSTYCHES. This time they invited FRIISK from East Frisia as well as KRAAT and MACHUKHA from Berlin.

MACHUKHA

Machukha [Ukrainian: "step-mother"] utilises elements of post-black metal, emotional hardcore, and punk. The band members come from diverse musical, social, and cultural backgrounds. Through mutual understanding and collaboration, they have established a creative process that reflects the band's primary goal: to express their shared experiences of retaining humanity in a harsh world. Their debut album ‘Mochari’ is about resilience. It explores the human capacity to withstand atrocities and continue surviving day by day. Natalya, who sings exclusively in her native Ukrainian language, uses her voice as an outlet for genuine anguish. The band's lyrical and musical narratives reflect their own journey - allowing oneself to embrace pain and learn how to let go of it, by surrendering to it.

The music features intricate guitar melodies steeped in melancholy that melt into intense waves of rhythmic fury from the bass and drums. Each musical element supports the others, with every moment and note carrying a specific intention. Together, they create a sonic landscape that thoughtfully guides listeners through precise emotions from the very first second. In addition to their music, Machukha has self-produced three music videos that form a continuous story. For these productions, they utilized their additional skills: Natalya designed and hand-made six sets of modernised traditional Ukrainian clothing, while Bláthin directed. Bláthin also performed as an extra in the videos using her knowledge as a professional dancer.

Machukha started performing live in late 2023 with their first show supporting HIDE in Berlin. Even though they only have a handful of shows under their belt, they have played Core The Festival in Scotland and opened up the main stage at Complexity Fest in Netherlands in Summer 2024 (alongside acts such as Show Me The Body, Gilla Band, Plini, Frail Body, Hexis). They have received enthusiastic praise from press and critics for their outstanding live performances.

Machukha worked with Jan Oberg from Hidden Planet Studio (Downfall of Gaia, The Ocean) and Jack Shirley from The Atomic Garden Studios (Deafheaven, Amenra, Wiegedood) on their debut album ‘Mochari’, which was released via Consouling Sounds on 7th of June 2024. ASSOCIATED ACTS & PROJECTS: Peaches, Florentina Holzinger, BACK TO YOUTH festival

KRAAT

In the dreary winter of 2016, KRATT was founded in grey Berlin, thus laying a path for the processing of dirty urban melancholy into the earth. The demons, who torment individuals in the unstoppable cycle of the living and reveal the futility of humanity, allow us to create an outlet of our misanthrophy in the lyrics and music.

FRIISK

Stormy like the North Sea and rough like the region they come from. The quintet from East Frisia effortlessly blends melancholic passages symbolizing the calm before the storm with furious blast beats and aggression that sweep over you like storms and wreck havoc on everything in their path.

The lyrics are dealing with the sea, nature and man's abysses. Everything is spun into stories about and from (East) Frisia and in three languages, from High to Low German and Sater Frisian.

FRIISK fuses the sound of old-school German black metal bands with a modern atmosphere to create their distinct sound.
