Formed in 2010 in Atlanta, Georgia, WHORES. stands out as a leading force in modern noise rock, blending influences like Helmet, Melvins, and Amphetamine Reptile acts without being a mere throwback. Known for their intense live shows and aggressive recordings, they've built a fervent, ever-growing fanbase. Their 2024 album WAR., out via The Ghost Is Clear Records (Chat Pile, Nerver), is set to solidify their impact.
Help is the frenzied sound of a broken and collapsing society realized as a noise-punk band from Portland, Oregon. Help is currently sitting on a fresh and heavy EP titled "Courage" (released October 11, 2024 via Three One G).
WHORES.
October 28, 2016 saw the band’s first full-length album and their debut on eOne records, GOLD. The album was widely praised, garnering spots in the top ten on album of the year lists through publications such as Rolling Stone, MetalSucks, Heavy Planet, Invisible Oranges, Shiny Grey Monotone, and more.
Prior to their signing with eOne, WHORES.’ output included two, now-classic, EPs. “RUINER.” released December 20, 2011, put the band on the map and is now on its eighth pressing. They followed this up with the even-more popular CLEAN. released October 29, 2013 and now on its eleventh pressing.
Between these and GOLD. the band released a split of covers by The Cure with Rabbits, and contributed the song “Bloody Like the Day You Were Born” to Amphetamine Reptile’s Dope-Guns-’N-Fucking in The Streets, Volume 13. WHORES. also contributed the track “Flag Day” to Amphetamine Reptile’s Bash ‘17 alongside acts such as The Melvins, Mudhoney, Lydia Lunch, and Cherubs.
In the wake of RUINER, CLEAN, and GOLD the noise juggernauts return with a fierce new LP WAR., which sees release via The Ghost Is Clear Records (Chat Pile,Nerver, etc.) on April 16, already in its third pressing.
This album brings American muscle to drown out the “American dream” as it careens into the ditch. Brazen rhythms, serpentine riffs, walls of feedback, and howls of contempt -- the band is as rowdy and boisterous as it is anxious and savage. WAR. offers 10 tracks recorded mixed and mastered by Ryan Boesch (Fu Manchu,Helmet, Melvins) at Candor Recording.
WHORES. offer the first glimpse of the new album with the video for “Quitter’s Fight Song,” which was conceived, shot (at X-Ray FM in Portland), and edited by Whitey McConnaughy (Red Fang, OFF!, Superchunk, ZZ Top, Mudhoney) and featuring members of Red Fang, Gaytheist and Help.
Help
Formed in 2018 by Ryan Neighbors (Guitar/vocals), Morty (bass), and Bim Ditson (drums), the members of HELP spent the previous decade or so in more restrained bands. Ditson with grinding indie rockers And And And, Neighbors with alt-pop dynamos Portugal. The Man and with his electronic project Hustle and Drone. And Morty, Morty has been around the track once or twice.
With Help, they are retrieving the punk roots each member had put down in their teens. They are ripping the seams back open to see what’s really inside.
“Everyone is angry,” says Neighbors, “Make some art about it."
Help is currently sitting on a fresh and heavy EP titled "Courage" (released October 11, 2024). It was recorded at Hallowed Halls in Portland, OR with producer/engineer Sonny DiPerri (Animal Collective, Protomartyr, My Bloody Valentine). For the band, “Courage” is a step towards a broader sound and an experiment in honesty over security.
Bim Ditson; "Courage is centered around heartbreak and pain. The short story of this record is that both Ryan and my lives were exploding and falling apart. So yea, it's a breakup album. As often happens, the music became a battery for pain in which we sunk energy for others to later draw from. Though deeply personal, these songs are meant as an invitation for others to feel and hurt freely. In the face of hopelessness, in the face of everyone pretending anything is fifine, in the face of the end of things meant to last and last, there's Courage."
