Divide and Dissolve from Melbourne, coming with their new album ‘Insatiable’, out on Bella Union records (April 18th 2025). Their music is an acknowledgement of the dispossession that occurs due to colonial violence, it honours ancestors, opposes white supremacy and calls for indigenous sovereignty. Strapped with thunderstorms of crashing cymbals, crunchy feedback, stomach-churning riffs and neo-classical inflections, the new collection delves into the idea of freedom through impermanence and destruction vs compassion, an urgent call to imagine a better world before it’s too late. Listen to it, digest it, and become insatiable. Provenance - official video.

Divide and Dissolve

Divide and Dissolve's Takiaya Reed is Black and Cherokee, focusing on Indigenous Sovereignty in her music. She has released two full length albums, Basic (2017) and Abomination (2018) through DERO Arcade before signing with Invada to release Divide and Dissolve's widely acclaimed third album Gas Lit in 2021, which was hailed Mary Anne Hobbs’ Album of the Year. Her dense sound is overwhelmingly heavy; a dissonant pounding of percussion, guitars, piano, synths and saxophone, interwoven with passages of orchestral beauty. A Gas Lit remix EP was released in 2021, including reworkings of Divide and Dissolve’s music by Moor Mother, Chelsea Wolfe and Bearcat.

Divide and Dissolve toured throughout North America and Europe in 2022 supporting Low and playing Roskilde and Desert Daze Festivals. 2023 saw them performing headline dates and festivals in support of the recently released album Systemic, including Supersonic Festival and End of the Road. CVLT NATION coined Systemic as the Number 1 Doom Metal Album of the year, with the album featuring on Spotify playlists 'All New Metal', 'Homegrown + Heavy', 'Fresh Finds Experimental' and 'NPR's New Music Friday'. Towards the end of the year, the soundtrack Takiaya wrote and produced for fashion brand Miu Miu was unveiled on the runway for the s/s 2024 show. 2024 started with a show at legendary Berlin venue Berghain, followed by a tour with Chelsea Wolfe across the USA in February and March. June featured an opening performance at the New York Sculpture Center. An extensive North American headline tour runs from September 2024 for 29 shows, capped off with a performance at the Venice Biennale in October and a performance at MASS MoCA in November.

The album title 'Insatiable', came to Takiaya in a dream. She had a vision of a better world, one that gelled seamlessly with the optimism of her take on heavy music: “I saw and have felt the impact of people committing great acts of harm, causing pain in a never ending cycle. I have also seen and felt the strength and power of people committing great acts of love,” she says. For Takiaya, this is what it means to be “insatiable”; it’s the way we choose either a path of destruction or one of compassion, and experience it to its fullest. “It’s an album about love, and it feels important to experience this, now more than ever.”
