Kwoon
Having just returned from a series of extraordinary solo adventures—sending his guitar into the stratosphere, performing alone on a vertiginous peak facing Mont Blanc at 3,800 meters, playing in the middle of the ocean at the haunted lighthouse of Tevennec, and even atop active volcanoes—Sandy Lavallart presents Odyssey, his deeply personal travel diary in musical form.
This highly anticipated rock/post-rock album is a poetic exploration of sombre and evocative landscapes, inspired by legendary acts like Pink Floyd, Archive, Arcade Fire, Mogwai, and Radiohead. Odyssey takes listeners on a journey across the vastness of the ocean (King of Sea, Fisherman) with its sailors’ tales, to the infinite expanse of the Milky Way (White Angels, Blackstar), and into the nostalgia of life itself (Life, Youth). The post-apocalyptic tones of Last Paradise reflect on society’s current challenges, using metaphors like an army of zombies to underline the album’s powerful themes.
In addition to its narrative depth, Odyssey boasts a rich sonic palette. Tracks like Leviathan and Nestadio embody the expansive energy of post-rock, while Wolves blends Daft Punk-style electro with delicate string arrangements, creating a unique and layered listening experience. The album also features collaborations with singers and musicians from around the world, whose voices and strings add an intricate and global texture to the music.
KWOON has always been about pushing creative boundaries. With three critically acclaimed albums (Tales and Dreams (2006), When the Flowers Were Singing (2009), The Guillotine Show (2011)) and tours across 17 countries—including supporting Mogwai and Dionysos—the project is no stranger to innovation. Now, with Odyssey set for release in 2025, KWOON reaffirms its position as one of the most imaginative acts in contemporary music. Having enchanted festival-goers from Europe to China, KWOON’s live performances are more than just concerts—they are transformative, multi-sensory experiences. With Odyssey, Sandy Lavallart invites listeners to join him on a sonic voyage through land, sea, dreams, and time. KWOON isn’t just a band; it’s a journey into the sublime, where music, emotion, and imagination converge.
