VMO members are named after legendary black metal bands written in Japanese katakana, such as Darkthrone, Mayhem, Emperor, Gorgoroth, etc. With KEZZARDRIX (who has done live visuals for MILLENNIUM PARADE and BABYMETAL in the past) in charge of live visuals, VMO consists of five strobe lights, a smoke machine, and a vocalist – Zastar. The band creates an extreme art music project where techno, black metal, industrial, noise, gabber, and contemporary music are combined. It is like black metal meets Kraftwerk or APHEX TWIN with corpse painting. Incidentally, they are currently one of the most power-hungry bands in live houses and clubs.

»Digital Afterlife Agency«, a work by Taiwanese visual artist Yuen Hsieh, for which they provided music, as well as their VR work in collaboration with Ommatidium Studios was exhibiting at Sonar Festival 2023. In the fall of the same year, they went on their second European tour and took part at festivals such as Litonel, Night of Surprise, Skanu Mezs, and Soulcrusher. Immediately after their return, they took part in their first major festival in Japan alongside Babymetal, Maximum the Hormone, Yoasobi, etc. at NEX_FEST, organized by Bring Me the Horizon at Makuhari Messe, and were positively welcomed with shock by the audience.
They were then featured in the Japanese metal magazine Headbang! and also appeared in The Wire, an authority on experimental music in the UK, which gave them exposure to highlight the uniqueness of the project.
In the spring of 2024, the second album Death Rave was released in analog, CD and streaming on Never Sleep and featured Attila Chihar of Mayhem, Kælan Mikla, Dylan Walker of Full of Hell, and Ican Harem of Gabber Modus Operandi. Accompanying the album release, VMO performed at Roskilde, the biggest outdoor festival in Scandinavia, as well as Sónar.
At the end of 2024, they participated in Benten, an art project by Chim↑Pop, one of the leading young representatives of contemporary art in Japan, and toured as supporting act for the Japanese legend Ryoji Ikeda. They also unveiled a prototype of Death Rave's newest system, Rainbow from Angel Corpse at MUTEK.jp.
Rainbow from Angel Corpse is the latest itteration of Death Rave, in which the boundaries between body and brain, reality and fantasy, as presented by VMO, disappear and merge. Devil's numbers and Xenakis' mathematics. The whereabouts of angelic corpses. Rainbow-colored despair. People dance and frolic in dreams of extreme colors and monochromes. It is the beginning of a hopeful apocalypse as the brain reaches the end of consciousness and the body returns to the heavens.
